Daily New Dominion (Morgantown, W. Va.), September 17th 1903

Wild Man Seen.

Residents of Fairmont Report That Uncouth Giant Inhabits Neighboring Woods.

Fairmont, W. Va. Sept. 17. – The woods in the close vicinity of Fairmont contain the den of a wild man. This fact has been fully established by the tales told by responsible people who have seen him and now an effort will be made to capture the queer dweller and to ascertain more about his conditions.

Last night a young man and his sweetheart were in the suburban woods in the East End. Just after dark a huge object emerged from the foliage and walked directly toward them. It was a man far above the average height. When he reached within a few feet he stopped, uttered some strange sound and stalked back into the brush.

The young man came to town and reported the incident. This morning a resident of the East End told the police that he had seen a strange looking man who was very tall, come to the edge of the woods just after daylight and then disappear.
